China and Pakistan agree to deepen trade and maintain proximity

Pakistan said on Wednesday it agreed to deepen trade and investments with China, days after the end of a conflict with India, that Beijing asked to be resolved through dialogue.

India and Pakistan agreed with a ceasefire on May 10, after four days of fighting, the worst in almost three decades.

The tensions increased among the neighbors with nuclear weapons after an attack in the Caxemira administered by India on April 22, which killed 26 people.

India blames Pakistan by the attack, but Islamabad denied any involvement.

Pakistan Foreign Minister ISHAQ DAR, met with Chinese Chancellor Wang Yi in Beijing on Tuesday (20).

China greets and supports the efforts of Pakistan and India to solve differences through dialogue and achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire, Wang Yi said on Tuesday.

Wang said China will support Pakistan to protect its territorial integrity, according to a statement from the China Foreign Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In addition to maintaining close communication, the two countries agreed to increase cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, industrialization and other sectors, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan.

Separately, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry said that Dar and Wang had another meeting with Afghanistan’s interim foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in Beijing.

The leaders have decided to extend the China-Pakistan economic corridor to Afghanistan and cooperate even more with China’s global infrastructure program, the belt and route initiative.

The next meeting between the three leaders will be held in Cabul, the ministry said.
