Chinese tourism and related industries recorded a decline in their activities and turnover due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, according to official data.
The value added of tourism and its related sectors in China was recorded at 4.06 trillion yuan (about $ 637.45 billion) in 2020, down 9.7% year-on-year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS).
The sector’s contribution to China’s GDP was 4.01% in 2020, down 0.55% from the previous year, according to the NBS.
Affected by the outbreaks of COVID-19, the value added of the hotel sector and the supply of tourist accommodation recorded an annual decrease of 28.8%, while the reductions for travel and the provision of catering services decreased by 12.1% and 10.8%. respectively, compared to the previous year.
