The Chinese government has called for respect for the will of the Venezuelan people and their “right to choose their own development path,” a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said in a post on X.
This comes several days after the decision of Venezuela’s Supreme Court of Justice that validated Nicolás Maduro’s proclamation of victory and is in line with Beijing’s initial recognition of the disputed result of the July 28 elections.
“The Venezuelan government and people are capable of managing their internal affairs,” spokesman Lin Jian added in the message on X.
All parties need to respect the choice made by the Venezuelan people, and respect the right of #Venezuela to choose its own development path. We believe the Venezuelan government and people are capable of handling their domestic affairs. pic.twitter.com/9rPg7Vvvhy

China and Russia were among the powers that recognized Maduro’s victory after the election. China’s foreign ministry congratulated the Venezuelan president on his “successful re-election” a day after the vote, without demanding proof of his electoral victory.
“China and Venezuela are good friends and partners who support each other. China attaches great importance to the development of China-Venezuela relations and is willing to work with Venezuela to continuously enrich the connotation of the China-Venezuela strategic partnership,” spokesperson Lin Jian said in the congratulatory message to Maduro.
Several countries on the continent, such as Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Peru, the United States, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic and Uruguay, rejected the decision of the Supreme Court of Justice.
Brazil and Colombia, for their part, insist that the voting minutes be published.
