China: Calls on UN Member States Not to Participate in Uighur Support Event

Beijing urges UN member states not to attend next week’s German, US and British crackdown on Uighurs Muslims and other minorities in Xinjiang, according to a service note edited by Reuters yesterday.

“It is a politically motivated event,” the diplomatic mission said Of China on the same note, dated Thursday.

“We ask your diplomatic mission not to take part in this event against China,” he wrote in the same note.

China complains that organizers of the event, including several other European countries, along with Australia and Canada, are using “human rights issues as a political tool to intervene in China’s internal affairs, such as Xinjiang, and to provoke divisions and unrest, disrupting China’s development. “

“They are obsessed with provoking confrontation with China,” according to the same note, which said that “provocative manifestation can only lead to escalation of confrontation.”
