China: Extends preferential taxation for foreign investors in the bond market

Beijing announced yesterday that it was extending preferential tax treatment for foreign investors investing in mainland China.

This move is part of the efforts to continue the opening of the mentioned investment sector.

Foreign investors are exempt from corporate tax and VAT on their profits from bond yields in the mainland China bond market, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Finance and State Taxation.

The measure is valid from November 7, 2021 until December 31, 2025, according to the announcement.

Overseas investors can now invest in the intercontinental bond market of mainland China through multiple channels, including suitable foreign investors, direct market investors, and the special bond investment program.
