Shanghai, China’s most populous city, extended the requirement of a diagnostic test for COVID-19, extending the free diagnostic test until the end of September, in an effort to keep the spread of the coronavirus under control, as the authorities announced today.
Citizens who do not have a nucleic acid test record within seven days will be flagged with a yellow code in the city’s health system, according to today’s official announcement.
The yellow code prohibits access to some public areas.
Today, health authorities in Shanghai, a city of 25 million people, announced that they had detected one case of infection with symptoms the day before, but also three asymptomatic cases.
Hainan province in southern China has been the worst hit in the current period, with 594 symptomatic infections and 832 asymptomatic ones, as reported today on the course of cases over the past 24 hours.
The implementation of tough restrictions and a lockdown in Hainan, which is a popular tourist destination, is expected to continue over the weekend.
China’s relevant health commission today reported a total of 2,144 cases of which 704 were symptomatic and 1,440 asymptomatic as of August 12.
