China grants visa exemption to tourists from Brazil and other Latin countries

China will extend its policy of exemption from citizens of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru and Uruguay, as it seeks stronger ties with the region.

The visa exemption agreement will come into force from June 1 and will be in force for a year, said the spokesman for the China Foreign Ministry, Lin Jian, on Thursday (15), during a press conference.

Thus, the Asian country puts some of the largest economies in Latin America on an equal foot with many European and Asian countries. Brazil, Argentina and Chile are among the five largest economies in their region.

Since last year, most European countries, as well as their neighbors Japan and South Korea, do not need a visa to travel to China.

The announcement was made after a high level forum among Chinese, Latin American and Caribbean authorities in Beijing earlier this week, in which President Xi Jinping promised to increase China’s presence with a new credit line of $ 9 billion and new investments in infrastructure.
