China has announced that it will continue to strengthen its relations with Iran

China pledged to continue to strengthen strategic cooperation with Iran, defend common interests and engage in regional and international peace initiatives. The relevant statement was made on Wednesday 22/5 by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to state media. Wang Yi made the comments during talks with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mahdi Safari on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) foreign ministers' council. “Iran has lost excellent leaders and China has lost good friends and allies,” the Chinese foreign minister was quoted as saying by the official Xinhua news agency. “At this difficult time, China stands firmly by the Iranian friends,” he added, referring to the death of Islamic Republic President Ibrahim Raisi, his counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian and other officials in the crash of the helicopter they were traveling in on Sunday.
