China has banned the production and sale of wireless charging for smartphones 50 W and above

In recent years, the mobile device industry has been moving towards the development of wireless communications. Wireless headphones and headsets are quite popular today, but manufacturers are constantly exploring the possibilities of fast wireless charging. Not so long ago, there were rumors on the Internet that China is going to limit the power of a wireless charger at 50W. They were distributed by tech bloggers, who allegedly had a draft of a document issued by the Ministry of Industry and Informatization of the PRC in their hands. Now there is an official version of the document that confirms the previous rumors.

In accordance with the decision of the Chinese authorities, from January 1, 2022, all mobile and portable wireless charging devices manufactured, imported, sold and used in China must not exceed 50W as the nominal power transmission power. This will limit further steps taken by manufacturers in the development of wireless charging. For example, the world’s fastest 120W wireless charging was recently introduced in China. After the government issued a ban on such charging, this device may never see the light of day.

Since the mass production of chargers is concentrated in China, this ban may affect other countries as well, which means that the chances of seeing really super-powerful wireless chargers in the future are very scanty. On the other hand, this will certainly contribute to the further modernization of wired chargers.
