Incidents broke out at its largest iPhone manufacturing plant China, owned by Foxconn. Workers clashed with security (wearing protective white coronavirus coveralls) brandishing batons and smashing surveillance cameras and windows in one of the factory’s buildings. Dozens of riot videos were uploaded to Weibo and Twitter.
The workers are protesting the strict restrictive measures for the coronavirus, about the working conditions, the poor quality food provided to them, about the bonuses that were promised and never paid. The factory, which employs close to 200,000 workers, is located in Zhejiang, in central Henan province.

The installation uses the so-called “closed circuit” system, in other words workers live in isolation, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in Jeju.
Both the restrictions and the dissatisfaction of the workers – many decided to quit – have caused problems in production. Apple announced earlier this month that deliveries of the new iPhone 14, will be lower than expected in the immediate future.
