China is already testing quantum encrypted calls

According to the source, China’s main telecommunications company, China Telecom, has launched a pilot program in Anhui province, under which users can make calls using quantum encryption algorithms. It is believed that they can provide an unprecedentedly secure connection with end-to-end encryption. Therefore, the service is primarily going to be made available to those who need “absolute security” – civil servants, military and financiers. After that, China Telecom is going to make the service available to ordinary users.

China is already testing quantum encrypted calls

In order to take advantage of quantum encryption, users from among the “friendly experienced customers” need to replace the usual SIM card with a special one, as well as install an application with the self-explanatory name Quantum Secure Call – it is available only for Android smartphones. The cost of the service has not been named, and it is unlikely that it will be announced in the near future: it will be possible to talk about the payment for quantum encryption of calls only after the service becomes available to ordinary users.

The project is being implemented by China Telecom in cooperation with QuantumCTek Group. The latter is also going to bring to the market phones with hardware support for quantum encryption, but when this will happen is still unclear.
