THE China successfully launched the spacecraft Shenzhou-15 heading to the Chinese Space Station (CSS) carrying three astronautswith the aim of marking the start of its operational operation.
In fact, the three astronauts will replace the members of the previous manned mission (Shenzhou-14) that arrived at the “Heavenly Palace” last June.
Shenzhou-14 mission members will begin their return journey to Earth in a week, during which the CSS’s ability to accommodate a 6-member crew is expected to be confirmed, marking yet another milestone in China’s space program.
The expected operational life of the Chinese Space Station is at least 10 years, during which the astronauts are expected to conduct more than 1,000 scientific experiments: e.g. they will analyze fluid behavior and plant adaptation to microgravity conditions.
“Long live the motherland,” many Chinese users wrote on social media, commenting on the historic Shenzhou-15 mission, with which China aspires to further bridge the gap that separates it from the United States, Europe and Russia in as far as space programs are concerned.
