Fan Weiqiu, aged 62, was convicted of carrying out the attack for personal motives, “in an extremely despicable manner”, according to the court, which was cited by CCTV. On November 11, Fan Weiqiu deliberately drove his SUV into a crowd of people training in front of a sports complex in Zhuhai. He was arrested at the scene after stabbing himself and falling into a coma, police said at the time.
