China to sanction US officials and require visas from diplomats

China stands ready to revoke visa waiver treatment for US diplomatic passport holders visiting Hong Kong and Macau, while impose reciprocal sanctions against some U.S. officialssaid the spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

Earlier this week, the United States imposed financial sanctions and a travel ban on 14 Chinese officials for their role in adopting a national security law for Hong Kong.

Also, Chunying strongly opposed S&P DJI removing Chinese companies from equity and bond indices., saying it is another example of the use of national power by the United States to oppress Chinese companies.

S&P Dow Jones Indices said Thursday it would remove the A, H and ADR shares of those firms, including Hikvision and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp, from all stock indices before the market opens on Dec. 21.
