THE China decides that she should strengthen her relations with Russiaamid turmoil on the international scene, Foreign Minister Qin Gang said today.
In a speech on the sidelines of the annual work of the Chinese parliament, Beijing’s top diplomat called the good personal relationship between Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin an “anchor” for the two countries.
He did not make it clear whether Mr Xi plans to visit Moscow after the end of the Chinese parliament’s work, which will last another week.
Asked by reporters if China and Russia would consider abandoning the use of the dollar and the euro in bilateral trade, Mr. Qin replied that the two countries would use whichever currency they deemed effective, safe and reliable.
“Coins should not be the deciding factor in imposing sanctions, much less a means of intimidation or coercion“, he commented.
China’s government, which has studiously avoided condemning Russia for its military incursion into Ukraine or labeling it the aggressor, often criticizes the US for its sanctions policy.
