“We Chinese are not going to capitulate. We will not sit back and do nothing while our country’s interests are harmedVice Foreign Minister Ma Zhouxu said in response to a question from Reuters at a news conference on Thursday to discuss Chinese diplomacy in the decade since Xi came to power.
The news is important because Ma is considered to be among the contenders to replace Wang Yi as foreign minister in an upcoming leadership reshuffle.
In the future, Chinese diplomats will continue to overcome all obstacles and will always be the devoted guardians of our country’s interests and our people.
A global survey released this week by the Washington-based Pew Research Center found that public opinion toward China in the United States and other advanced economies had turned “precipitately more negative” under Xi.
