Sales of 5G-capable smartphones in China rose 63.5% to 266 million units last year, with falling prices boosting demand, according to government data released on Friday.
Sales of 5G smartphones accounted for 75.9% of total sales, above the global average of 40.7%, announced the Chinese Academy of Information and Communications (CAICT).
CAICT said the purchase of 5G smartphones was encouraged after the price of these devices dropped below 1,000 yuan ($157.69).
By the end of November, the total number of smartphone users of China’s three largest operators had reached 1.64 billion, of which 497 million were connected by 5G terminals, an increase of 298 million over the previous year, CAICT reported.
The country’s three largest telecom operators are China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom.
