China’s state-run People’s Daily to give away 51,000 NFTs

The official publication of the Communist Party of China, People’s Daily, and the Lingjing Folk Art Museum have launched the Year of the Tiger NFT collection on Tencent’s Zhixin platform.

For the Lantern Festival and Chinese New Year, the museum presented the “Tiger folk digital messages” collection, which combines the traditional Chinese art of calligraphy with digital technology. The purpose of this initiative is to spread the beauty of Chinese culture among the youth.

People’s Daily said it will be giving away 51,000 digital images of the words “tiger” and “love” in traditional Chinese calligraphy starting February 14 to celebrate the Year of the Tiger. The “People’s Digital Tiger Posts” collection features calligraphy, running script, and cursive writing of the word “tiger” written by ancient Chinese calligraphers.

These calligraphic works are combined into five digital collections, which are limited to 10,000 copies on the People’s Daily Online+ app. App users can get them for free.

Each work in the collection has unique characteristics and a certificate number confirming its authenticity. The digital collectibles were created on Tencent’s Zhixin blockchain, but they can only be managed on the People’s Daily NFT platform.

Recall that last year, China’s state news agency Xinhua announced the release of a collection of 11 NFTs with a circulation of 10,000 copies. Recently, the national Chinese platform Blockchain Services Network (BSN) announced that it plans to deploy infrastructure to support and run NFT without the use of cryptocurrencies.

In addition, earlier, the Chinese cryptocurrency project NEO announced that, together with the BSN platform, it will create the Jiuquan blockchain for the issuance of NFTs.
