In an interview with CNN Sandro Teixeira, a professor at the Army Command and General Staff College, said that the United States is concerned about downed flying objects, as they could allow monitoring of military equipment.
“This type of monitoring would give the Chinese the ability to observe which aircraft were ready for takeoff and also the capacity of the destruction missiles”, he said.
“We live in an era of competition between great powers, and they are using all available technological means to observe each other.”
According to Teixeira, the two powers do not speak openly about these objects, as they could be new technologies being tested, “touched by Chinese as well as by Americans”.
For him, the most likely explanation is that the objects are meteorological observation balloons to guide Chinese fisheries, which operate across the globe through this system.
