China has told Russia it will continue to increase “strategic coordination” with it regardless of international instability, the foreign ministry said in a statement today.
Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Yucheng assured Russian Ambassador to China Andrei Denisov on Monday, the statement said.
Le cited a nearly 30% increase in Sino-Russian trade in the first quarter of this year as evidence of the “resilience and endogenous strength” of co-operation between the two countries, according to the statement.
The two men also discussed Ukraine.
China has avoided condemning the Russian attack on Ukraine, where the United Nations says more than 2,000 civilian deaths have been reported since the February 24 invasion.
Russia denies targeting civilians as part of this “special operation”, as it has described it.
