Chinese DJI denies leaking Ukrainian troops’ positions in Moscow

Chinese drone maker DJI has dismissed as “completely false” allegations that it leaked data on Ukrainian military positions in Russia, after German retailer MediaMarkt cited such information as the reason for withdrawing DJI products from its shelves.

In particular, on Friday it became known that the German giant MediaMarkt withdrew from its stores the products of the Chinese company in response to “information from various sources”, although it did not give details about the information it had.

On Twitter, the Chinese company said: “DJI promotes civilian drone applications that benefit society”, adding that MediaMarkt’s accusation was “completely false”.

“We do not support any use that harms the lives, rights and interests of the people,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

MediaMarkt, which has more than 800 stores in 12 European countries and Turkey, did not say what information it had received about DJI.

“As a responsible company, we took immediate action and removed the manufacturer from our product range throughout the group until further notice,” she said on her official Twitter account on Friday.

MediaMarkt was responding to a user who accused DJI of leaking GPS data from Ukrainian military positions in Russia.

“We will look carefully at further indications and developments,” he added.

As Western companies withdrew from Russia in protest, DJI remained, like many Chinese companies, in the country as Beijing avoided criticizing Moscow for invading Ukraine.
