Almost half of the Ffp2 and Ffp3 masks imported into Italy since the start of the pandemic, 250 million out of 530 million, will have to be withdrawn from hospitals and health facilities: laboratory tests have shown the ineffectiveness of filtering. This was established by the Guardia di Finanza of Gorizia which, after having acknowledged the alarm launched by the ASL of Gorizia and having carried out analyzes on the quality of the devices, decided to block 12 lots of masks imported from China from July 2020.
The health workers who asked for checks on the masks wrote that the devices they did not adhere well to the face and that, to the touch, the material with which they were packaged was poor.
According to the two Italian laboratories, Turin and Milan, who examined the devices, several samples from those batches have filtering capacity “even ten times lower” to standards. The most likely hypothesis is that they are counterfeit masks, with one false Ce2163 certification (the most used trademark in Italy for personal protective equipment): the Turkish documentation certifying compliance with EU directives is not authentic.
On March 31, the financiers tracked down e blocked 60 million pieces in storage in the deposits of the commissioner throughout Italy. However, another 190 million masks have already been distributed. And many of these have certainly already been used.
