Chinese Honor launches AI-enhanced Magic 6 Pro smartphone globally

Chinese technology company Honor globally launched its new Magic 6 Pro smartphone and introduced an experimental eye-tracking AI function that allows users to remotely open and move their car just by looking at the phone's screen.

The tool is already available in China and the company is working to commercially integrate it abroad.

Honor, sold by Huawei Technologies in November 2020, and now owned by state-owned Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology Co, had until Sunday (25) launched its new phone exclusively in China.

Technology and telecommunications companies are launching new products and features ahead of the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, which kicks off on Monday, hoping the buzz around generative AI will boost business prospects.

Manufacturers hope the excitement around AI will help boost a sluggish smartphone market, although many experts say generative AI could raise legal or ethical concerns.

The company, which competes with the likes of Apple and Oppo for a share of China's smartphone market, is also working to globally integrate the so-called LlaMA 2 large language model (LLM), a tool similar to ChatGPT, into its phone. .

As of 2023, Apple has a 17.3% market share in China, while Honor has 17.1%, according to the International Data Corporation.
