Chinese men who pay to marry Brazilian women are targets of PF operations

This Tuesday morning (1), the Federal Police of Pernambuco launched Operation Enlace, which aims to dismantle a criminal organization specialized in defrauding the national migration system. The action, carried out by the PF police station in Caruaru, in the countryside of the state, investigates a scheme that facilitated the regularization of foreigners, mainly of Chinese origin, through simulated marriages with Brazilian women.

The investigations, which began in 2021 following a report of fraud in residency applications, revealed that the group worked to entice Brazilian women willing to enter into false marriages with foreigners. The objective was to guarantee the legal permanence of these immigrants in Brazil.

In return, the women received a payment to formalize the marriage and legitimize the documentation of those involved.

In this Tuesday’s operation, around 60 Federal Police agents carried out 10 search and seizure warrants in the cities of São Paulo (SP), Recife and Caruaru (PE).

All seized material will be sent to the PF police station in Caruaru, where it must undergo detailed analysis. The court orders were issued by the 16th Federal Court of Pernambuco, in the Judiciary Subsection of Caruaru.

Those investigated may face charges of forming a criminal organization, misrepresentation and use of a false document. The combined maximum sentences can exceed 19 years in prison.
