Toyota Motor Company said this week that it will resort to additional production cuts in March due to a shortage of semiconductor products. The announcement comes just days after the Japanese automaker slashed its second-quarter production target by as much as 20%.
The company intends to suspend production on one of the lines for eight business days, starting March 22 and until the end of the month. In February, production was suspended at two plants.
According to a Toyota spokesman, this forced measure will affect the production of about 14,000 Noah and Voxy cars. However, this is not such a significant number in comparison with the total output. Despite the suspension of production, Toyota still plans to produce 8.5 million vehicles this year.
On Monday, the company announced the suspension of production at a joint venture with FAW Group in the Chinese city of Changchun due to new restrictions related to COVID-19. In addition, Toyota recently suspended production at its Russian plants, citing supply chain disruptions following Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine.
