Chivo Wallet Users in El Salvador Receive Discount on Fuel Payments

The El Salvadorian government has taken another step to encourage citizens to transact using the Chivo cryptocurrency wallet.

El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele tweeted a message about a program to stabilize the prices of liquefied gas and petroleum products. The government program is aimed at reducing the financial burden of households, businesses and the most vulnerable sectors of the country’s economy. Chivo wallet plays a separate role in this process. Although not explicitly stated by the president, Chivo’s partnerships with fuel companies provide a financial incentive for citizens to transact, as the country’s population was initially negative.

At the direction of the president, the state-owned company Chivo has agreed with the largest filling companies in El Salvador to provide a discount of $ 0.20 for each gallon of fuel purchased (≈4 liters). The benefit has no restrictions and can be used by public transport, entrepreneurs, as well as any company or individual.

Despite the protests of citizens, the negative attitude of some of the media and bankers, the Bukele government is systematically standardizing bitcoin transactions throughout the country.
