Chocolate that enchanted the queen is from Brazil

In 2012, two boxes of Q chocolate, produced by Brazilian chef Samantha Aquim, ended up in British lands.

One was sent to the British Red Cross which held an auction to raise funds; another was a gift to Queen Elizabeth II who received the delicacy in a beautiful box with the Brazilian and English flags.

The bars that were in the box were designed by one of the greatest architects in Brazil, Oscar Niemeyer, and the gift lived up to the occasion, the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II, which was titled as the Diamond Jubilee.

Cocoa, the tropical fruit that gives shape to chocolate, was originally from the south of Bahia.

Marcos Augustinas, Q chocolate brand ambassador in São Paulo, told us that some time later the queen sent a letter of thanks.

“The letter said that the Queen had found the chocolate splendid and that she was interested to hear of the family’s association with the cocoa chocolate-producing culture in Brazil, as well as being thrilled to hear of the British Red Cross’s support.”
