Today we learned that at least in benchmarks, the mobile RTX 3070 is faster than the average mobile RTX 2070 Super by a significant 29%.
However, we know that Nvidia mobile graphics cards can vary greatly in terms of power limits, which is why performance is very different. For example, a mobile RTX 2060 with a maximum TDP of 115 W can be even faster than a mobile RTX 2080 if the TDP of the latter is limited to 80 W.

There was no doubt that the RTX 3000 line would be the same, and now we have concrete data. Retailer GenTechPC compared two MSI laptops, the GE66 Raider and the GS66 Stealth, equipped with an RTX 3070 adapter. Only the first is the Max-P version, and the second is the Max-Q. GPU frequencies are respectively 1620 and 1290 MHz.
As a result, the first version scored 27 940 points in 3DMark Fire Strike, and the second – 21 337 points. That is, the difference was 31% in favor of the first!
As already mentioned, the Max-Q marking will no longer be found on laptops or manufacturers’ websites as mandatory, so you will need to choose one or another gaming model very carefully, otherwise the desired video card may not be at all what you expect.
