The Deputy Minister of Development and Investment, Christos Dimas, announced today a legislative initiative for simplification of the development processes of the technoblasts, speaking today at the Delphi Economic Forum, according to a relevant announcement.
Mr. Dimas said that for the government, linking research and innovation with entrepreneurship is a strategic priority. “Greece already offers tax incentives to companies to invest in technology. Our country has one of the most competitive tax frameworks in the European Union,” he said. He added that the creation of technology transfer offices is a necessary step for the creation of an innovation ecosystem, while he added that it is important to have appropriate education in technology-related areas from an early age.
The president of ThessIntech, Nikos Efthymiadis spoke about the new technologies and noted that it is important for Greece to become a regional technology hub. The “missing link”, he argued, is the partnership, complementarity, co-location of research centers, entrepreneurship and the public sector and this is what the Thessaloniki Technology Park (ThessIntech) has to offer.
The general manager of Ansys Hellas, Babis Bakolias, noted that since 2019, when his company is active in Greece, he has been trying to “grow” by approaching research institutes in the country. “We approach research institutes so that they provide us with access to metrics to verify our internal results, to conduct experimental studies in academic research, but also to have access to talent pools,” he said.
Systems Engineering Professor John Baras said Greece has a good foundation, but focused on what “needs to be done” in the country. He said that Greece needs to invest in infrastructure, to have a balanced development in the periphery of the country, to have a proper connection of digital technology with the production process, to upgrade school education in the field of computer use and new technologies, but also to add in the teaching process there is a program that teaches entrepreneurship to young people, so as to help further strengthen start-ups.
