Chr. Dimas: Over 200 million euros for the upgrade of the infrastructure of the research centers

“Strengthening research and innovation is one of the most important strategic priorities of the Government”, notes the Deputy Minister of Development and Investment Christos Dimas in his statements to APE-MPE.

The Undersecretary announced that the Ministry of Development and Investment and more specifically, the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GGEK) managed to secure through the National Plan for Recovery and Sustainability Greece 2.0 (“Next Generation Eu” program), funding in the areas of basic and applied research and the proposals of the “Seal of Excellence” program, the reforms for investments in research and development as well as the upgrading and expansion of the infrastructures of the research centers.

These are actions, which amount to a total of 418,877,510 million euros.

Regarding the action “Creation – Expansion – Upgrading of the Infrastructure of the Research Centers of GGEK supervision”, the budget is set at 207,417,122 million euros and is in full swing according to the required time milestones.

Recipients of the action are in total 14:

– Ten research centers: the Institute of Biobiological Research of the Academy of Athens, the Institute of Technology and Research (FORTH), the “Athena” – Research Center for Innovation in Information Technologies, Communications and Knowledge (ETH ATHON Research Center), “Alexandros Fleming” (EKEVE AL.FLEMING), the National Center for Research and Technological Development (CERTH), the National Research Foundation (NHRF), the Hellenic Pasteur Institute (EI PASTER), the National Astero Center (Hellenic Astero) Of Marine Research (ELKETHE), the National Center for Social Research (EKKE)

– Four technological bodies: NOISIS-Thessaloniki Science Center and Museum of Technology, the Hellenic Atomic Energy Committee (EEAE), the Science Park of Patras (EPP), the “High Technology and Research Park” in the Region of Epirus in Ioannina.

“The main strategic priorities of the action include, on the one hand, the strengthening of national research infrastructures and, on the other hand, the creation of favorable conditions for the development of research and innovation of these bodies at European and international level,” the Undersecretary noted.

“The utilization of the research results that will result from the implementation of projects, is expected to upgrade the competitiveness of the highly trained research staff of the country as well as the position of our economy, through the products and services produced.”
