Chr. Staikouras for Commission report: Landmark and closing of a chapter related to the financial crisis

He speaks of a landmark report for the country, which, together with the early repayment of the IMF, launches the closing of a difficult chapter for the country associated with the multi-year economic crisis of the last decade, in a statement on the 14th Enhanced Surveillance Report for Greece, the Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras.

In detail, Mr. Staikouras states:

The European Commission today published the 14th Enhanced Surveillance Report for Greece.
This is a landmark exhibition for the country, as it paves the way for Greece to exit the Enhanced Supervision Regime, which it had entered – only in Europe – in 2018.
The achievement of a great national goal is therefore underway, for which the Government has been working for a long time, methodically and responsibly.
This closes, along with the lifting of capital restrictions and the early repayment of the IMF loan, a difficult chapter for our country, linked to the multi-year economic crisis of the last decade.

The Report – the 10th consecutive positive Report during the period of the country’s New Democracy rule – emphasizes that the effective implementation of the reforms has improved the resilience of the Greek economy and strengthened its financial stability.

At the same time, it acknowledges that Greece has completed the necessary steps to achieve its agreed commitments – despite the difficult conditions caused by the economic consequences – mainly – of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and even welcomed the implementation of a number of them in the public sector. finance, real estate tax, disability benefits, environmental inspections and justice.

This development is the fruit and recognition of the systematic joint effort of all of us, citizens and the state, in an environment of ongoing – internationally – great difficulties and challenges.
We continue the hard work even more intensively, working with a plan, responsibility, confidence in our strengths and the capabilities of our homeland, in order to overcome the successive, external crises and to make Greece – in all respects – stronger “.
