Chr. Staikouras: Greece receives international vote of confidence with successive upgrades

“The government is responding to the challenges of a strong, sustainable and competitive economy,” Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said during a speech to the Finance Committee on the draft law on “Incentives for business development through partnerships and corporate transformations”.

The Minister underlined that “despite the negative situation, with increases in borrowing costs, geopolitical tensions, health and energy crisis and high inflation, Greece receives a vote of confidence, with successive upgrades, as a result of hard-working public reform efforts. publishing strategy and sufficient cash “and noted that” as we saw from the successful trip of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the United States, all this is recognized internationally. ”

Referring to the bill, he said that it “is another decisive step in the broader plan for the transformation of the Greek economy. “creating new jobs and boosting social cohesion.”

He pointed out that it has been added to the long list of fiscal policy measures taken by the current government, in the direction of encouraging and stimulating entrepreneurship, including through tax and insurance contributions and incentives for the development of start-ups, the promotion of research and development (R&D), attracting foreign investors and tax residents. Measures that encourage the creation of new wealth, through the increase of employment and investment, which will then be redistributed – in terms of justice – to society.

In this direction, the minister said, the bill introduces the institution of business cooperation. Improves provisions of tax incentives of previous development laws. It strengthens the agricultural economy and promotes the cooperation of natural persons, mainly farmers.

In particular, a significant income tax deduction of 30% for 9 years is provided in the new partnership that will result from the cooperation of individual, very small, small and medium enterprises, amounting to 50% for farmers. A discount that will significantly reduce the real, effective tax rate for these companies, for which the New Democracy government has already reduced the nominal tax rate to 22%, from 29% 3 years ago.

In this way, the minister said, “business growth is supported and promoted, their resilience and competitiveness are strengthened, synergies are encouraged at national and supranational level, with a potentially multiplier benefit for public revenue and employment.”

Mr. Staikouras clarified that “the main aim of the bill is to increase the productive potential of the country and, consequently, the growth of the Greek economy” and added that “establishing incentives is not an easy exercise. We must balance two forces, “On the one hand, supporting small businesses and promoting entrepreneurship. .

The Minister of Finance also referred to some statistics on the performance of Greece in relation to Europe, in terms of employment and business competitiveness, which show the large extent of small and medium business in our country and productivity, saying that “therefore, it becomes necessary creating a modern and stable institutional framework that promotes and effectively motivates business transformations and partnerships, which, in turn, will become more extroverted, improve their productivity, reduce production and sales costs, attract human capital research and development investments and will expand their financing prospects through banks, development law, NSRF, and the Recovery and Sustainability Fund.

The new draft law, the minister said, systematically incorporates, with completeness and clarity, tax incentives that will facilitate mergers, all kinds of corporate transformations and collaborations of Greek companies, in full harmony with the existing corporate law on corporate transformations.

Earlier, the draft law was passed on the Authority by a majority with the positive vote of ND. The KKE and MERA25 voted against it, while SYRIZA, KINAL and Elliniki Lysi reserved their right to be present in the Plenary Session.
