Chr. Staikouras: Tax-free, unrestricted and inalienable subsidy for natural disasters

“The government proves in practice that it responds immediately and effectively to the needs of our compatriots who are experiencing the effects of natural disasters,” said Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, answering a topical question from SYRIZA MP Alexandros Avlonitis about the consequences of “bad to citizens, businesses and local government in Corfu.

The Minister of Finance stressed that “the subsidy for dealing with natural disasters is tax-free, unsecured and inalienable in the hands of the State or third parties, by way of derogation from any other general or special provision, is not subject to any fee, contribution or other withholding in favor of the State.” , including the special solidarity contribution, is not bound and offset by certified debts to the State, legal entities under public law, Local Government Organizations and their legal entities, insurance funds or credit institutions “.

The subsidy, the minister said, is equal to a percentage of the estimated damage to assets such as equipment, raw materials, goods, trucks for public and private use, as well as commercial vehicles, means of production, including land capital and stored products, which were recorded as damaged. The recording and assessment of the damages is carried out by the state aid committees, which are established by a decision of the competent deputy regional governor, in each regional unit. The responsible deputy governor also sends to the Ministry of Finance a file with the consolidated situation of the companies and non-profit organizations that were affected, and the estimated losses.

SYRIZA MP, Alexandros Avlonitis, for his part, claimed that the Corfu Region has not yet completed the files and has sent to the Ministry of Finance only a very small number. He wondered what is the contribution of the ministry and, in any case, the government in general, in this matter and added that about three hundred companies that operate in tourist areas, have not received even 1 euro to start the process in Corfu, in Ithaca, in Lixouri that suffered huge disasters with “Ballos”.
