There is no question of a lockdown, said the Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras, saying characteristically that “there is no case of closing the country, the cash is sufficient and safe to respond under conditions to any crises that exist or arise.” He added (speaking on SKAI radio) that “we will be close to society for as long as needed in 2022 and on the front of the pandemic and the energy crisis. While, whatever surplus is available to the citizens”. At the same time, he stated that the total amounts given to society from 2020 to 2022 to help due to the pandemic amount to 43.3 billion euros, money that the country borrowed on extremely favorable terms.
For ENFIA next year, he said it will start being paid from March in 10 or 12 installments. “We expect most citizens to pay less ENFIA, as we have included in the budget a tax reduction of 60 million euros,” he said.
The minister called on citizens to finalize their applications for the settlement of their private debt to banks and AADE, through the new out-of-court mechanism. As he mentioned, the first 24 cases were already completed yesterday and the regulations are significantly improved for the citizen.
According to the minister, the primary deficit this year will amount to 7% of GDP or 13 billion euros, while the country’s total debt amounts to 200% of GDP or 350 billion euros. He added that it is estimated at European level that in 2022 there will be fiscal adjustment without austerity measures but through growth, while fiscal rules will be re-introduced from 2023.
