Chr. Staikouras: Three-month aid for fuel, its implementation from July

From July, the new interventions in fuel will be implemented and will have a horizon of three months, announced the Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras, without giving more details about the amount of the new interventions but also the way they will be granted, referring to the meeting that will have next week with Mr. Mitsotakis.

Speaking to SKAI, the Minister of Finance stated that the interventions of the government so far are extremely “brave” in relation to the European average.

Regarding the budget execution data, the Minister of Finance stressed that the first feeling that exists is that in May the revenues will be increased in relation to the targets by about 1.2 billion euros.

More than half of the revenue comes from ENFIA, as many chose to pay it in a lump sum after the significant reduction and therefore this is revenue that the financial staff expected in the coming months.

Mr. Staikouras explained that the excess of taxes is gnawed by measures and interventions outside the budget and specifically mentioned:

– Interventions in electricity – 1.1 billion euros

– Interventions in fuel to date 200 million euros (100 million fuel pass / 100 million in diesel)

– Intervention in VAT 250 million euros

Intervention in ENFIA 370 million euros.

The Minister of Finance stressed that Greece has given more than other European countries, at a time when it has the highest debt in Europe. He added that a primary spending deficit is expected this year and therefore the “give more” logic is a suggestion of increasing the deficit.
