Chr. Staikouras: We act decisively and wisely because the challenges for the Greek economy are ahead of us

“Greece is a champion of investments throughout Europe for 2021-22-23” noted the Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras, at the recent, 100th anniversary general assembly since the founding of the Association of Societes Anonymes and Entrepreneurship, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Panagiotis Bitter.

According to today’s announcement of the association, the minister noted that the government has implemented its pre-election commitments: reduction of direct taxes, reduction of advance tax, reduction of dividend taxation, reduction of ENFIA, reduction of insurance contributions. He noted that “the brave interventions of the government were confirmed by the recent OECD report, where Greece presents the second largest improvement in disposable household income among all OECD countries.”

Mr. Staikouras also stressed the successful, as he characterized it, treatment of the health crisis by the government, with measures that supported the economy and society. The result of the government choices was a strong recovery, a reduction in unemployment and a reduction in red loans. But more important, according to Mr. Staikouras, was the productive transformation of the economy. “Greece is a champion of investments in the whole of Europe for 2021-22-23”, as he said, while regarding the energy crisis, the minister stressed that according to ECOFIN, Greece has allocated the highest percentage of GDP in support measures .

Mr. Staikouras concluded by noting that the government acts with determination and prudence and therefore does not follow those who call for a more expansionary fiscal policy, because it implies an increase in the primary deficit, the need for borrowing and consequently mortgaging the future of the Greek economy.

The president of the Association, Simos Anastasopoulos, in his short greeting pointed out the structural reorganization of SAEE and the adaptation to the requirements of the new centenary that is beginning.
