Chris Noth, actor who plays Mr. Big in “Sex And The City” was cut from the next episodes of the series’ continuation, “And Just Like That”, aired on HBO Max since December. The announcement that the character was edited and removed from future scenes, confirmed by the American magazine “Variety”, is due to allegations of abuse and harassment against the actor.
Mr. Big, a character married to protagonist Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), had already been killed in the plot in the early episode of the revival, victim of a heart attack. Noth, however, would appear again at the end of the series, set to air on February 3rd.
In the scene, a fantasy sequence, Carrie would disperse to her husband’s ashes in Paris, and Big would reappear. The participation, however, was excluded, and there will be no more mentions of the character.
The charges against Noth began to surface in December 2021, just when the actor was announced in the new “Sex And The City”. In an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter”, two women said that the news brought to light the trauma of having been abused by the actor. The episodes of sexual assault would have occurred in apartments in Noth, between 2004 and 2005. After these first reports, three more women went public to denounce other episodes of harassment.
As a result of the move, Noth was fired by his agency and also cut from another series, “The Equalizer”. Jessica Parker, as well as her co-stars Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, expressed sympathy for the victims.
“And Just Like That,” a comeback from the popular 2000s series, had already faced other controversies since its announcement by HBO Max. Fans of the original version complain about the absence of the character Samantha Jones, played by Kim Catrall, who refused to participate in the revival for disagreements with Jessica Parker.
The death of Mr. Big itself was controversial. After the scene where the character is sick after a spinning session on a Peloton branded stationary bike, the company’s shares have fallen by more than 10%.
