German Finance Minister Christian Lindner has been diagnosed with the new coronavirus in Washington, DC, where he traveled to attend spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, a ministry official said.
Mr Lindner attended a meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bankers and a meeting of G7 finance ministers before being informed that the examination he had taken had a positive result, the same source said.
Germany currently holds the rotating presidency of the G7.
“The minister is doing well, he has only mild symptoms,” the official added, without specifying whether Mr Linder would return to Berlin today as scheduled.
The examinations he had taken the day before yesterday, Tuesday, before his flight, and on Wednesday in Washington had negative results, his services assured.
