Christian Vieri arrives at the theater: “My Bobo TV, in Jimmy Fallon style”

Newscast of Formentera. It’s been six years now since Christian Vieri, with a helmet on his head and a pineapple in his hand, he gave information about his days in the Balearics. In particular, on the results of the play foot volley and on the prizes won, like popsicles and watermelons. Overwhelming clips, hilarious, capable of doing the full of views and launch the former striker among the darlings of the web: from breaking through the networks to breaking through the network. Today, after the sensational success on social media and on Twitch, he is ready to bring his to the theater Bobo TV, a winning format together with Daniele AdaniAntonio Cassano and Nicola Fan. «It all started during the first lockdown», Tells us the historic bomber, who will be on 10 June a Viareggioon 16 a Civitanova Marche and on 1 July a Jesolo (here the tickets). “I started doing live broadcasts on Instagram, invited my friends to wheel, I did one on one. I saw what the numbers were crazyso I thought of Do something else“.

What do you mean?
“I thought it would be much more fun to have four-way conversations, where we can make fun of each other, everyone can have their say. This is how Bobo TV was born, which we then decided to bring to Twitch, on a platform originally for gaming, which few knew: we had to explain it, move people, it wasn’t easy ».

Seen in this way, there is ample room for improvement in terms of audience figures.
“Sure, mainly for two reasons. First of all because people are now understanding what Twich is, there are people of 70 who write to me to find out how to see me, even my dad downloaded it a month ago thanks to a friend’s son. Then we must add that we are already the second / third most watched sports program in the world, but we only do 3 hours live on Mondays and 2 hours on Fridays. There are shows that go on the air 5 hours or more every day: slowly we will increase a little too ».

In your opinion, what is the secret of success? And above all, if she was expecting him?
«I’m honest, I didn’t think I would do these numbers so quickly, I thought it would take more time because we were starting from scratch: but people are sick of football, they want to hear about it. And above all he wants to have fun, the secret is that: we do entertainment, we involve the public. On the other hand, if there have been talk shows in America for so many years, there will be a reason ».

Were you inspired by one in particular?
“I really like Jimmy Fallon, he’s an actor who also has his own program, you bend over with laughter. Then there is the David Letterman, the Jay Leno: we talk, but in fact we laugh as well. If we only talked about football, people would get bored: then let’s make a show that is also much more ».

The transition to the theater, however, is not so obvious.
“I’ve always known that we could have arrived there: last year, for example, we went to Trento for the Sports Festival and we made an episode of Bobo TV there, right at the theater: laughter for two hours, telling anecdotes and involving those present. And it is also thanks to my traveling companions: we are very different from each other and this is essential in order not to be monotonous ».

Do you give me a label for each of them?
«Adani I would say” the scholar “, because he watches all the games and studies from morning to night. Cassano is directed like “a sniper”: he often says things that many think but do not have the courage to say, he goes straight to the point. Fan is our playful man, a twenty year old of forty: they are truly phenomenal ».

But if you go back in mind, when did you understand that through social media you could carve out a new profession in all respects?
«For five years I worked at beIN Sports, in Miami: they also have a social office, of course, and since I like to find out and understand things, I was often in there. I learned how to use them, how to communicate: among other things, I’m sorry that when I played football there were no social networks: at the time, if a journalist wrote something about you, you didn’t have the opportunity to reply. Since I have a bad temper, I was branded by the press as gruff and unpleasant, but it is not like that: today everyone tells me “then you are nice”, but I always have been. Just ask my former teammates ».

There are also gossips on social networks, unfortunately. How does it deal with haters?
“Quite simply I block them, I don’t give a damn. I do not make you stay on the other side of the keyboard to insult me, then anyway no one comes to say certain things to my face. I am ashamed for them, but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it: so I block, I have so many things to do and I cannot worry about what I cannot control ».

That he knows how to use social media well is undeniable. But he is even better at minting catchphrases: how does he do it?
«They come naturally to me, nothing is built: there are projects that I say no to because I should read a script, while I like to say things my way, to be free. To think that there is someone who even today, when he meets me on the street, asks me for the Formentera Newscast. I therefore believe that the winning weapon is spontaneity, like when I wake up in the morning at 7.30 to take my daughter to school and do a live broadcast in which Diamanti from Australia connects ».

To stay on the subject, what is life like as a double dad? Do you sleep at night?
«My daughters are the most beautiful joy that has ever happened to me, Costanza gave me two wonderful gifts and I love them madly. I get up early to take Stella to school, when I get to Isabel too, and as soon as I’m not working I’m with them: habits have obviously changed compared to when I lived in Miami, but I couldn’t be happier than that. I think I did everything in the right time “

Time for the family, but work is not lacking: in addition to the theater there is also the Bobo Summer Cup. Can you tell us about it?
«When I gave the link to subscribe, it was sold out in 7 minutes. If it had been up to me I would have done 500 pairs, but they told me there was no time. Basically there is an amateur tournament, open to all, and one let’s say VIP, in which we will play, from 17 to 19. The proceeds from the ticket office will donate to the Heal Foundation, plus on Saturday there is also a charity dinner. They will be fun stages, in which whole families will be able to participate ».

In short, with the padel it is crazy love.
«Actually it all started two years ago in Formentera, with Brocchi convincing me to go and play, but I didn’t quite understand what game it was. Last week I was at his house, he reminded me of that moment since I always play now: after all, it’s a fantastic sport, it’s fun and everyone can play it, I think it will grow in popularity in the next few years. Instead of going for a run or to the gym, I sweat it out on the pitch for an hour and a half, I feel the adrenaline of the challenge ».

Speaking of the challenge, who are the best of the former footballers?
«There are many strong ones, in Rome above all because they have been playing padel there for several years: I am thinking of Totti, Candela, Fiora, Giannichedda, Marcolin, Di Biagio. Here in Milan there are Amoruso, Budel, Cassano also makes the championship ».

To win it will take a company. Like that of Milan in the league: to close I would like to ask you for a comment on the Rossoneri Scudetto.
«The merits are to be shared. Pioli created a crazy group. Maldini and Massara have taken on phenomenal players with low budgets: I say one, the goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, who few knew him and replaced a top player like Donnarumma. Then there is Theo Hernandez, for me the best role in the world for him. But beyond the individuality, it is the collective merit: with the individuals you don’t win, with the group you win ».

A winning group, like that of Bobo TV.
