Christie’s will be holding rare NFTs including CryptoPunk # 9997 from Larva Labs and a non-fungible token from the Bored Ape Yacht Club collection.
Several rare NFTs will be sold as part of the Christie’s No Time Like Present online auction, which runs from September 17 to 28. The crown of the collection will be CryptoPunk # 9997 from Larva Labs – a red-eyed bearded zombie in a black cap. The auction will also feature the non-fungible tokens Bored Ape Yacht Club # 8746 – a monkey with a halo and laser eyes, and Meebit # 6337 from Larva Labs – a figurine with a Lego-style skull. These NFTs are part of the private collection of Shawn Yue, who got into NFT earlier this year.
“The idea of the auction came to my mind when I celebrated my 40th birthday this year … It’s time to celebrate another new chapter in my life,” Yue said. “A lot of my friends have started collecting NFTs over the past years, and I’ve learned a lot from them.”
Auction house Christie’s notes the growing demand for NFT CryptoPunks and BAYC from Yuga Labs.
“The owners of these works love to use the avatars they have purchased as their profile pictures – you can say that these figurines become their virtual identity. In addition, the ownership of one of the rare ‘cryptopanks’ is becoming a status symbol, ”said Laura Shao, a 20th and 21st century collection specialist at Christie’s Asia Pacific.
According to Larva Labs website, CryptoPunk # 9997 sold in February for 99.99 ETH. NFT was later listed for sale in May at 450 ETH before the offer was withdrawn in July. Currently, the minimum price for the CryptoPunk NFT collection is 76.99 ETH (about $ 260,000).
The auction house sold the popular NFT Bored Ape Yacht Club and Bored Ape Kennel Club collections last week. One of the NFTs was sold for $ 24.4 million. In March, the British auction house Christie’s held the first auction with a lot in the form of NFT – a digital painting by the artist Beeple was sold for a record $ 69.3 million.
“The sale of the Beeple has brought a new audience to Christie’s,” said Noah Davis, head of digital art at Christie’s. “More than 40 people submitted bids for the auction, with 20 bids amounting to more than a million dollars. But only three of the bidders have previously participated in Christie’s auctions. ”
As a reminder, Christie’s sold nine rare NFT CryptoPunks in May, which were created in the first days after the launch of the project in 2017, which led to a rise in prices for other NFT CryptoPunks.
