The actress Christina Applegate 52, shared in a new episode of his “Messy” podcast that his father, Robert Applegate, passed away .
She gave the news crying in Tuesday’s episode of the show-which features alongside Jamie Lynn Sigler-during a conversation about mourning with guest Joanna Garcia Swisher.
“You’re probably wondering why I’m crying now,” said the star of “Dead to Me.” “My father passed away a week ago. This is the first time I really cry. I think, in a way, I was not allowing myself to feel it yet. Very busy with that, very busy with that.”
“We knew he would die,” he continued. “Is this an excuse not to feel? Why do you kind of know someone will leave and have said goodbye?”
Christina Applegate added that she is “extremely sad” by the loss of her father while swisher consoled her.
She also said that she did not grow up with her father because her parents separated when she was little, but said, “He has been present in my life ever since. And I have two beautiful brothers and an incredible stepmother, but he was not part, say, from the learning phase of life.”
Robert was married to Christina Applegate’s mother Nancy Priddy between 1970 and 1979.
In a 2013 episode of the “Who Do You Think You Are?” Program, Christina said that after her parents’ separation, when she was only five months old, her father moved to the Big Sur region in the center of California.
“I couldn’t spend with him the kind of time I think neither I nor I would like to have had,” she said at the time.
But since she had her daughter Sadie in 2011, the result of her marriage to Martyn Lenoble, she said that her father spent “much longer here, which was very good.”
“We are linked by the blood, but also because I am part of it and part of his personality,” he added.
