There is a season a year in which even adults are allowed to become children again. The credit, of course, goes to the magic of the holidays, which manages to alleviate any sadness with a little warmth and hope. The healthy carriers par excellence of these feelings are animated films that, in streaming and in the cinema, tell the spirit of family and sharing typical of Christmas.
Unlike the era-Frozen, all reindeer, puppets and snowflakes, this year the stories become universal, timeless and disconnected from winter. The frame of the stories is not the typical picture with a fireplace and stockings, but the enchantment is present, and how.
Entrepreneur Buster Moon, star of Sing 2 – Getting stronger (from 23 December in the hall), premiered at Sorrento cinema days, once again engaged in an impossible undertaking to transform his provincial theater into an unforgettable show. And, icing on the cake, the star voice cast (which includes Matthew McConaughey and Scarlett Johansson) is joined by new entry Bono (lion rock star Clay Calloway).
Pretty Boy, another koala, but of a completely different nature, lives in the zoo of Back to the outback: Ritorno alla natura (on Netflix), indeed it is the absolute star. Pampered, celebrated and very spoiled, it is perfectly fine in captivity, unlike a handful of poisonous creatures, which all fear, scoff at and hate. In reality they are not monsters that humans think: they do have lethal characteristics, but they do not allow themselves to be defined by this. And so they begin a journey into the wilderness in search of freedom and family, which they have never known.
The same ideals of diversity and inclusion underpin Ron – An unscheduled friend (on Disney +): the story comes to life in the near future in which sociability is taught to children through some robots. Always at a maximum distance of two meters from its owner, this device becomes its main and best friend, but this is not the case for everyone. One of them, Ron, has something wrong and is about to be put down, but a child, Barney, takes it to heart and the two become inseparable. Together they understand the true foundations of a bond of love and realize that they have nothing to do with popularity on social media.
The very difficult art of growing up also comes to life in the feature film version of Diary of a Wimpy Kid (on Disney +), the first animated film based on Jeff Kinney’s bestsellers. Greg’s life in middle school is complicated to say the least because he is targeted by bullies, he is not part of the popular students and has a friend who is as clumsy as he is, but something is about to change his fortunes.
Speaking of stories already familiar to the public, Christmas Eve arrives Peter Rabbit 2: a rogue on the run (on Sky Cinema Uno). Also this time the protagonist rabbit is refractory to the rules and just can’t stay out of trouble. That’s why, when he moves away from the garden and discovers a community that appreciates his spiteful soul, his family does everything to bring him home and indeed risks everything. In that moment, then, Peter must understand what he really wants and what he’s willing to lose.
After the brief interlude on the big screen this summer, Captain Saber and the magic diamond lands on TV (on Sky Cinema Family): it is a classic adventure, with pirates and crew, a way to fly with the imagination in distant lands and among surreal characters.
To these new titles is added, of course, everything the Disney repertoire, which on Rai cheers the general public with the most popular fairy tales.
