Christmas in Fai goods: all the events not to be missed

Waiting for Christmas in the Fai goods has now become a tradition: also this year the Fondo per l’Ambiente Italiano proposes for the whole month of December events, guided tours, workshops for adults and children, and Christmas markets that will make the anticipation of the most magical night of the year sweeter. And, as usual, there will be many palaces and castles, villas and naturalistic areas protagonists of this very special Advent calendar; some examples? Villa dei Vescovi, a Renaissance jewel in Luvigliano in Torreglia, in the province of Padua, is transformed into a large laboratory where the little ones can learn how to build Christmas angels and trees using paper, fabric and other recycled materials, while at the monastery of Torba di Gornate Olona also adults can try your hand at creating Christmas cards using collage (and following the precious advice ofillustrator Valentina Pasta, who will personally animate some workshops).

Al Masino di Caravino Castle you can instead follow real seminars, organized in collaboration with the Italian association butlers, on the art of welcoming guests: after having admired the tables set with the services of the Valperga family, you will be able to discover all the secrets of the art of receiving, from the mise en place to the small and large courtesies that already in the eighteenth century made invitations to the palace unforgettable. The castle of Avio in the province of Trento it offers guided tours and a real market which will be attended by thirty exhibitors from Vallagarina who will bring jewelery and wooden objects typical of local craftsmanship to the courtyard of the castle, as well as honey, cheeses, jams, beer, apple cider and mulled wine.

And then again, traditional events and great news: on the tradition front, it returns again this year the Christmas Eve mass celebrated by Father Mario Pastorino at the abbey of San Fruttuoso. From the small port of Camogli, just before 11.00 pm, a boat will depart which will take guests to the church of the millenary abbey overlooking the sea; at the end of the celebration – in which the choir of the Voices of the Alps of the Alpine group of Santa Margherita Ligure – it will be possible to visit the monastery and participate in a toast based on mulled wine and pandolce from the ancient Romeo Viganotti factory in Genoa. Among the most awaited news instead Astronomers for one night, the guided observation of the sky in the wood of San Francesco di Assisi: here, in the garden of the Benedictine convent of Santa Croce, after a brief introduction and a sip of mulled wine (a constant of these December appointments), we will leave armed only with a flashlight and comfortable shoes for a walk in Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Third Paradise to observe planets, stars and meteors.

There are many other initiatives this month: the link where you can find all the practical information and how to participate is this; and if you will not be able to participate in the events on the calendar, but will still want to make your contribution to support the activity of the Fund for the Environment, an excellent idea will be to give (or treat yourself) the membership card annual at Fai, which will allow you to enter the assets managed by the Fund all year round and have privileged entrances on the occasion of special events. Even so we can contribute to the care and enhancement of the history of our country.
