Britain’s Princess of Wales Kate Middleton paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth at a Christmas ceremony at Westminster Abbey, saying the royal family’s first Christmas without the late monarch “would be very different”.
The mass that traditionally precedes Christmas took place last week and aired this Saturday (24).
King Charles, accompanied by Queen Consort Camilla, joined his son Prince William, Kate and other family members at the church service at the abbey, where the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral was held in September.
Kate, William’s wife and Princess of Wales after Charles ascended to the throne, organized the event and dedicated it to Queen Elizabeth and “to all who unfortunately are no longer with us”.
“While Christmas looks very different this year, we can still remember the memories and traditions we share,” Kate said in an introduction to the service. Queen Elizabeth died on September 8 at the age of 96, after 70 years on the throne.
“Her Majesty holds Christmas close to her heart, as a time that brings people together and reminds us of the importance of faith, friendship and family, and showing empathy and compassion,” she said.
The family presented a united front on the service on Dec. 15 — the same day the final episodes of the Prince Harry and wife Meghan docuseries were released on Netflix.
Harry, who stepped down from royal duties in 2020, has further criticized his family in the series, including accusing his older brother William of yelling at him during a summit to discuss his future.
