The output of Oppenheimer it is an excellent opportunity to devote yourself to the rewatch, deepening all the creations of Christopher Nolan. His filmography counts 12 films, and although it is difficult to decree which is the most beautiful, admitting that there is not one really bad, here is our very personal ranking:
1. Interstellar (2014)
It is Nolan’s quintessential masterpiece. A film where more than anyone else the director manages to showcase his genius, accompanying the script that superficially could be defined as surreal, with a background of science, intertwining quantum physics with astronomy, seasoning everything with a dose of humanity , with emotion to refute the physical principles of the most beautiful space odyssey ever.
2. I remember (2000)
Nolan’s second creation, the film with which he drew the attention of the most inattentive to himself. In I remember the director sets himself the goal of transcending the classic story, trying to build his own narrative scheme. In the film the protagonist, victim of amnesia, is looking for revenge, in analyzing the character we approach a profound analysis of the human mind.
3. Oppenheimer (2023)
The last outing will immediately take the podium. Oppenheimer’s strength lies in the nature of the film itself, apparently biographical, he manages to seize the opportunity to address abstract themes such as ethics and by now everyday events such as those of war.
4. Inception (2010)
In Inception action mixes with fantasy, where dreams are the true protagonist of the film. Dreams seen as a way out to escape reality, like the one experienced by Dom Cobb, the protagonist played by Leonardo di Caprio, deeply marked by his wife’s suicide.
5. The dark Knight (2008)
Second film in Nolan’s Batman trilogy, the best of the three. The film is embellished by Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker, a role that earned him the posthumous Oscar win for best supporting actor.
6 . The Prestige (2006)
Set in the Victorian era, the film traces the rivalry between two illusionists, a competition that leads to obsession and the sickest version of ambition, showing its most harmful facets.
7. Dunkirk (2017)
In describing the evacuation of the city of Dunkirk during the Second World War, Nolan tells three parallel stories, associating each one with a place: land, sea and air. The film manages to create a strong sense of anguish in the viewer, due to the waiting and slow development, with minimal dialogue, of the events.
8. Batman Begins (2005)
The beginning of the trilogy that brought Nolan to pop audiences. In the first film dedicated to Batman the genesis of the character is completely changed, giving him a much darker look than his predecessors. Here the foundations are laid and the characteristics that the superhero will maintain for all three films are shown.
9. Insomnia (2002)
The only film in which Nolan is the sole director and not the screenwriter. The protagonist is a detective played by Al Pacino, in the throes of an inner conflict during an investigation that takes place in Alaska.
10. following (1998)
Nolan’s feature debut tells of a man who follows strangers to get inspiration for his writing, ending up getting involved in dangerous situations.
11. The dark Knight. The return (2012)
Perhaps the least successful of the three, still capable of giving a worthy conclusion to its protagonist, the pace of the narrative weighs on the development of the film, a little below its two predecessors.
12. keeper (2020)
Of all the most misunderstood. In general, a project whose script does not rest on solid foundations, showing obvious plot holes and passages that are difficult to understand, despite the fact that the intention was more than good.
