Christopher Nolan will be knighted by the British Empire

British and North American filmmaker Christopher Nolan who recently won the Oscar for “Oppenheimer”, will be honored as knight of the British Empire for his services to cinema.

His wife and film producer, Emma Thomas, will be made a dame, the female equivalent of a knight, the British government said on Thursday, in a list of honors recommended by UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak that also included politicians conservatives and technology sector leaders.

“Oppenheimer,” a blockbuster biopic about the race to build the first atomic bomb, won seven Oscars earlier this month, including best picture and Nolan's first best director award. His career includes other well-regarded films, such as “Interstellar”, “Inception” and the Batman trilogy.

Nolan wrote the screenplay for “Oppenheimer” and produced the film alongside Emma.

Among other people who will be knighted are Demis Hassabis, chief executive of Google's DeepMind company. Other figures from the world of artificial intelligence who were honored include Matthew Clifford, AI advisor to the British government, and entrepreneur Ian Hogarth, president of the AI ​​Security Institute. Both were awarded CBEs (acronym in English for Commander of the Order of the British Empire).

Billionaire businessman and Conservative Party donor Mohamed Mansour has been knighted for services to business, politics and charities.
