Christos Staikouras in Paris for the informal meetings of the Eurogroup and Ecofin

The Minister of Finance, Christos Staikouras, will be in Paris tomorrow, Friday and the day after tomorrow, Saturday, in order to participate in the informal meetings of the Eurogroup and Ecofin. On the sidelines of the meetings, he will make contacts with his European counterparts.

In particular, tomorrow morning Mr. Staikouras will take part in the Eurogroup meeting, which will have as its first topic of discussion macroeconomic developments in the eurozone, including inflation.

The agenda of the meeting also includes an overview of economic governance, with an emphasis on the process of macroeconomic imbalances in the euro area. The course of discussions on the euro as a digital currency will also be examined.

This will be followed by a working lunch, which will be presented to his counterparts by the French Minister of Finance, Mr. Bruno Le Maire, in the framework of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU. During the lunch will be discussed how to strengthen the economic power of the European Union worldwide, in the light of recent geopolitical developments.

Afterwards, Mr. Staikouras will attend the Ecofin meeting, where, according to the agenda, the first topic of discussion will be the policy mix to be followed, in order to achieve the recovery of pre-pandemic growth rates as soon as possible. tackling the challenges posed by the dual digital and green transition as well as the current energy crisis. At the same time, the role of a strong financial system during this transition will be examined, in particular through the strengthening of capital markets.

In addition, Saturday will focus on the role of innovation as a key driver for strong and sustainable growth.

Finally, the discussions will conclude with an exchange of views on the targeted actions that need to be implemented, so that the green transition proceeds in a fair way and without social exclusion.
