Chrome for Android’s first update to a three-digit numbered version is finally out after numerous betas. Despite the anniversary date, the browser did not receive any very large innovations – rather, minor changes. Reported by Android Police.
Among the new things, two things stand out most of all: an updated logo (it has changed for the first time since 2014, having lost shadows and got more saturated colors) and the abandonment of Lite-mode, which was used to save data.
Predicting the outrage of users, Google has already explained why it abandoned the last feature – the company is confident that the modern Internet uses web standards, which themselves minimize traffic consumption. In addition, access to the Internet has become significantly cheaper than when the feature appeared in Chrome. Based on all this, it turned out to be simply unprofitable for developers to keep their servers that forward traffic through themselves and compress it.
