Chrome has been updated to version 103, which was not just a minor update with bug fixes, but brought useful features. Among them are the improvement of the pre-rendering mechanism, and the blocking of annoying notifications. Reported by How-To Geek.
Modern browsers can preload websites before the user even clicks on their link, and Chrome is no exception. Now it does it faster thanks to the use of HTTP code 103 Early Hints, the gain was a few milliseconds.
Another innovation is that sites will be able to use fonts stored locally on the user’s device without requiring any permissions. This can be useful, for example, for web versions of graphic editors, which will now look more like native applications.
Chrome 103 also learned to block site notifications that may be unwanted for a particular user. This was made possible thanks to machine learning technologies that work directly on the device (without sending data to Google servers): special algorithms analyze user actions in order to predict which site notifications will be unwanted for him. These will be blocked automatically.
Among other things, the Android version of Chrome 103 received a new setting for developers – users can remove the Discovery and Following feeds from the home screen by going to the path chrome://flags#feed-ablation (need to move the switch to position enable).
