Chromebook shipments up 74% in 2020

As distance education has become the “new normal” in 2020, demand for Chromebooks has grown to an all-time high. Chromebook shipments grew 74% year-on-year to 29.6 million, according to a study published by Finaria.

The fourth quarter of 2020 was a record for the specified market – 11.2 million Chromebooks were sold, up 287% compared to the fourth quarter of 2019.

Growth is expected to continue into 2021 as demand has yet to be met. Analysts predict a 37% increase over 2020. If this forecast is justified, the annual sales of hroboks will exceed 40 million units.

Referring to Canalys data, the source calls HP the market leader. She shipped 9.4 million Chromebooks in a year and took 31% of the market. In second place is Lenovo with 6.8 million units and 22%. Dell closes the top three. This company shipped 4.6 million Chromebooks in a year, which corresponds to 15% of the market.

Due to the impressive growth in the number of Chromebooks, the share of laptops with Microsoft Windows for the first time in history was less than 80%.
